The race weekend is very short here in the Provence of Quebec. We are in a small town called Trois Rivieres (translated Three Rivers), and the event is spectacular. The town shuts down it's downtown to pedestrian traffic only, and we race on the streets just a few blocks away.
The crowd is large and doesn't speak much English, but what a fun event that we get to have up here. The only down side is that we get very little track time. Today we had two practice sessions, and we chose not to do the second one because of the rain. So the morning practice I started out and only did a handful of laps to make sure the car felt good. I then handed over to my co-driver, Benoit Theetge, who is a local and very familiar with the track. He was able to set the quickest time of the session for our class.
Since we gave him the majority of the first session, I was to run the majority of the second practice session, but a sudden downpour caused us to just sit the session out. Some teams choose to go out and give it a run, but there was nothing to be gained from doing the session.
So, now we have to qualify tomorrow morning and race tomorrow afternoon. We were pretty happy with the setup, but had a few things we wanted to accomplish in the practice session that we would not be able to accomplish in the rain. So with only a few laps in hand, the next time I will see the track at Speed is in the middle of the race! It's a little nerve racking, but I think I will do fine. It should be a good race for us, as I believe Benoit will run up front for the beginning of the race and I will hopefully take over the car in a very good position. The way our strategy is going to work well thought is if there are not any caution periods in the race. We are gambling on no cautions, while our teammate is gambling on having a couple.
The rumor in the paddock is that the Acura's will have brake issues in the race. To tell the truth we are a bit concerned about our brakes holding up, so it will be interesting to see how it all plays out. Hopefully I will have more to write about after the race, but for now I am off to bed.
