Lime Rock Race
Date: 5/28/2007 Event: Lime Rock Raceway

This blog is getting very repetitious. I feel like I'm writing the same thing every race. This time things were looking so good. Our strategy worked out exactly to plan, we were on a 2 stop strategy. I got in the car during an early full course caution (25 minutes into the race) and I was going to work traffic and take it easy, and then make up more positions on the next pit stop when other teams were changing drivers all I had to do was get some gas. But, we never got the opportunity. On the re-start I was dead last (because only a couple other cars had pitted and I got out last) but it was not a big deal, we had planned on that. Our strategy was playing out nicely. But, on the first lap heading to the final corner a few cars got into each other right in front of me. I was only a couple of feet behind the car in front of me and couldn't see the wreck happening until it was too late. As I went for the break petal I bumped into the car in front of me, neither one of us spun, but his tow hook had gone straight into my radiator. The injury was fatal for the car, I knew it immediately because my car was spilling water all over the place. All I could do was get back to the pits and push the car behind the wall. To make matters worse, the car that I had hit was my teammate. The hit broke his exhaust off at the headers, this caused the engine to not cool properly. Which about an hour and a half later caused an over heading engine to finally give out. So, two of our cars did not even finish this race.

It was very hard to watch so much of the race from pit lane, but at least I had something to take my mind off our continuing bad luck. People that have been around racing for a long time keep telling me that bad streaks like this are bound to happen if you stick around long enough; I'm just hoping that we can turn it around very soon. The way the race played out, our strategy would have worked perfect. I truly believe we easily could have been on the podium for this race. The car was not ideal for the track, but the strategy was perfect, and the car was good enough to get the job done. Our next race is at the team’s home track of Mosport, outside Toronto. So, everyone is looking for a strong showing there. My only reservation about that race is that I have very little time at that track, and I was not fast there in the past. Hopefully, the experience I have gained since I last visited there in 2003 will greatly help me out.
