The season has not started well, so maybe the mid-season shakeup that has come a little early will be good for us. My co-driver Travis Walker has moved on and is going to be driving a Mustang in the GS class for the rest of the season. Travis was a was a very good co-driver but some kind of bad luck struck him in in first 3 races.
So, the plan right now is to have me drive with a couple of different people for the next 2 races, then we will all get together and decide who will be in the seat for the rest of the season. I believe the Kensai guys are looking forward to the 2008 season. So, the driver they get they want to be long term.
This blog is a funny thing, I like to keep it up so that you guys that read it can stay up with what’s going on. But, I have to stay within my limits and not disclose info that I’m really not supposed to yet. So, what I can tell you is that I’m driving with Taz Harvey for next weekend’s race. That’s really all that is totally finalized and I am able to share at the moment. Taz has been around for a while, and I’m glad to be with another competent co-driver. When you get word last minute that the hunt is on for a co-driver you never know if your going to get stuck with a shmuck. But, I know Taz is quick and if the car is right, we’ll definitely have a shot at the win.
As for the rest of the season, I’m pretty sure I’ll have some input with the team as to who is going to be in the seat after Lime Rock, but I’m definitely not in a position to make the decision. It still makes a driver feel good when you get to have some input as to who you are driving with. But, it remains to be seen just how much weight my opinion will hold with the team.
We’re going to need a change of luck if we want a good result in the next couple races. The odds are definitely stacked against us. Our TSX’s have never been to a true road course (all previous races have been on modified NASCAR ovals), so more complex turns will test the suspension and setup in ways we have not yet experienced. But, to add to that we don’t have a lot of practice time at either of the next 2 races. And, I will have a different new co-driver for each of the next 2 races also. We do have potential, but there will be many obstacles to overcome. Hey, that’s why we’re racing and not bowling (no offence to bowlers, but let’s be honest. There are not as many variables or unknowns in bowling).
