Homestead Race
Date: 4/15/2007 Event: Homestead Miami Speedway

The start of the race was pretty easy. You never know when your in the middle of the field what kind of mayhem is going to take place. But for me at least it was uneventful. I got past a couple of cars on the first lap, and made my way up to 6th by lap 3 or 4. I forget. Anyway, about that time I got around one of the Team Subaru cars and the very next corner he used me as a brake. Slamming into my rear it destroyed my rear bumper and punched in the trunk pretty good too. That sent me flying off the track and through a sand trap. I kept my foot in it and was able to dig through the sand, but lost a few positions in the process. I got back on track and luckily no damage to the suspension. All the wheels were still pointing in the same direction and the car was running well.

But, my rear bumper was dangling behind the car and the officials made me come in to get it ripped off. I was not too happy about this, but they also made the Subaru come in and serve a penalty. I'm not sure how long it was, but he was behind me later on so it was a pretty long penalty.

So after that I was down around 30th position, when a caution came out a lap later. It felt like about 100 cars were in front of me, but it was only 20 something. So my job now was to work the car as far forward as I could before handing the car off to Travis. I worked it up to 6th again, I think, then another caution came out and the crew called me in for the driver change.

Our strategy worked out perfect, long story short as pit stops cycled through and the final caution was over we had the lead with about 40 minutes to go. But that was not to last long.

Travis started complaining that the car's handling was going away and he started backing up a bit. The 2 lead cars were too fast for us anyway, but we had a top 5 car. Then with 2 laps to go the Subaru's struck again punting Travis off, but this time it was fatal. Travis came up lame and couldn't make it back to the pits.

So, once again luck was not on our side at the end of the race. At least this time we have a race next week, so that soon this weekend will be but a distance memory.

Our battered car...
