ON THE POLE!
You could say qualifying went well for me. What else can I say, the car was perfect.
This morning was wet and we didn’t really feel the need to go out so we didn’t do many laps. By the afternoon the rain had stopped and the track was drying out. We worked on the qualifying setup in the afternoon practice and got the car dialed in perfect.
So for qualifying I went out nose to tail with my teammate in the 76 Kensai car and we were planning on drafting each other to pick up a little extra time. So, we went out and did a couple of conservative laps, in the mid 2 minute 10 second range, just to make sure we had a good time down. Then we got the go ahead to “rip one off” so went for it and I did one lap and Karl did 2. When the smoke had cleared we were in position 1 & 2, the team was ecstatic. I ended up just 3 tenths of a second faster than Karl.
So, the first race of the weekend was ours. But, the important one is the one remaining. With one practice remaining tomorrow we will work on the race setup and Travis will probably do most of that session (since I did most of the driving today). We're looking good for the race, but it’s racing and you never know what’s going to happen.
