Indy 500 – A Memorial Weekend Tradition
Every Memorial Day weekend the city of Indianapolis comes alive with the sounds and thrills of one of the world’s premier sports events. The Indianapolis 500 motor race takes place at the hallowed brickyard race track located just outside of the center of this Indiana city. I have been fortunate to have watched some of these races in the company of some hot Birmingham escorts. The Indy 500 has provided some of the best racing in the history of the sport over the past 100 years. The circular track of 2.5 miles is the home to the premier open wheeled event in motor sports in the United States.
The oval and banked track first opened in 1909 and the race in 2011 will be the one hundredth running of the famed Indy 500. This is a race that is filled with historical significance. The best drivers in motorsports have all tried their skills at Indy. Only a few have come away winners. From A.J. Foyt to Mario Andretti the American drivers who have had success at Indy are many. Driving an open wheeled racing car is not the same as driving a “stock car” as the drivers in NASCAR do. Open wheeled racers are purposely built for racing and nothing else.
